Mistval
The mistvals are a diverse species, found in all the empires in the various deep valleys and misty bogs throughout the world. This heavy mist they often live within is where they get their name, mistvals. The Mistvals are an insect-looking race, easily recognized in a crowd. They are a strong matriarchal society as the females dominate the males physically by a fair amount. Even the grubs of the mistvals are nearly larger than the males themselves. These tiny males attend to the building and labor of the colony and are the only ones capable of flight as the wings of the females are underdeveloped to make room for larger size and thicker plate. The mistvals are a conservative people who appreciate good manners above all else and have some of the most complex etiquette of all the races. They are sometimes said to be a stuffy and unyielding in their viewpoints. Every colony of mistval is loyal only to their particular colony and rivalries and hostilities between colonies occurs often, particularly across the boarders of empires. All mistvals though have a natural disposition of mana towards the realm of mind and often are seen in positions of religions importance in empires. This is also used in their communication with other races as their mouths are not structured to speak the tongues of other races and their own language is made up more of a complex series of scents than actual sounds.
The society of the mistvals has a complex series of ranking among the females that involves a lot of duels and political maneuvers to the top, however, a clear indication of rank is how many males a single female has. Due to the males being brightly colored, females will often collect males they find pretty to carry around on their bodies as decorations of sorts. Powerful females can upwards to twenty males around them at any given moment while a weaker female would have one or two. Males prefer a stronger female as this guarantees them more rank and duties within mistval society. A single female will lay up to fifteen eggs each laying period and within a few hours of hatching, the large larvae will follow and ride on their mother who will provide them with food. After a few weeks the larvae will actually start to hunt food on their own and are faster than they look when moving...
Fun concept to do! I like coloring the faces in particularly! At first they were just bipedal bug people...then I wanted to just forgo a human look and went full out insect centaurish creatures with big tough females and tiny males that are used as decoration. It is fabulous. There is a poll currently for which concept to do next!
